The 10,000 hits means the total hits. That is, everytime someone loads a page. So when you go to the website, that's 1 hit. When you click Downloads, that's another hit.
Forum visits are not counted.
The 4,464 unique hits is how many different users has been on.
We need this to count a hell of a lot faster.
